Certified production sites

Improvement of working conditions globally

Over 20 years ago, we had the working conditions in our manufacturing factories audited by independent organisations for the first time. Regardless of the location of the production site or the supplier, we have since been working with our partners to continuously improve our labour, social and environmental standards.
Our own employees and independent audit organisations audit our supplier factories regularly to ensure that they are adhering to our strict labour, social and environmental standards.

Over time, we then build faithful partnerships and employee relations that stand the test of time and are reflected in the quality of our products. We can guarantee that over ninety-nine per cent of our order volumes are produced in factories that undergo regular BSCI, SMETA, SA8000 or PUMA SAFE audits and our products are produced under safe and fair working conditions.

Independent audit of social standards

Proven
strong standards.

In line with our Code of Conduct, we only work with production sites that meet strict social, and health and safety requirements. Our codes of conducts are based on the ILO core labour standards, PUMA also follows the Code of Conduct of the Fair Labor Association, which PUMA has been a member of since 2004. The requirements apply even if they are stricter than or contradict local standards. Since 2002, they have been reviewed at least yearly in independent audits.

Values
: Our family business is run with universal human values that are brought to life every day by those who work at ISM.

Innovation: Innovation is the essence of ISM. We work closely with our customers and are one step ahead of the market by developing new products and innovative technologies.

Excellence: We want to continuously improve. Striving for excellence in everything we do requires dedication and passion – and the drive and commitment to do our best and ensure that our customers are always fully satisfied.

Customer orientation: One of ISM’s most important goals is achieving the greatest possible degree of customer satisfaction. For this, we build on trust, transparency, and fairness in the way we interact with each other. Approachability and commitment are part of our company and customer culture. We are a team that acts on projects creatively and innovatively and has a positive attitude with the aim of satisfying the needs and priorities of our customers.

SATISFACTION CREATES MOTIVATION

Potential employees do not always choose the job offer with the highest salary. As highly qualified professionals, they want to see their children grow up or temporarily take over the personal care of relatives who require help. As a certified “Family-friendly company in the district of Soest”, we see the person in the employee and create solutions for balancing family and work, e.g. through

  • Flexible working and break times
  • Customised part-time arrangements
  • Childcare subsidies
  • Employee vouchers and discounts
  • Parent-friendly holiday arrangements
  • Financial contributions for special family occasions
  • A good company pension scheme
  • And much more

Wherever possible, we cater to the individual wishes and needs of our employees.

FAMILYFRIENDLINESS BENEFITS EVERYONE

As a third generation family company, we are dedicated to the “Family as a success factor” network. We want to set a visible example for a family-conscious personnel policy. This does not just include mothers and fathers with young children: Most people in Germany who care for a relative are employed at the same time. We support our employees through measures that are easy to implement. For example, in the event of an unexpected need for care, we offer orientation through initial counselling by our trained care guides or another individual solution. It is not just individual employees who benefit from this, but also our team, our customers and the social environment.

SUPPORT KNOWS NO (COUNTRY)BORDERS

We take responsibility. For our fellow human beings and the society. Irrespective of where they live or work. With regular fundraising campaigns, e.g. for Médecins Sans Frontières or Aktion Lichtblicke, we also put our words into action. We do not take the necessary financial resources from a fixed annual budget, but determine the number of projects supported at our own discretion and personal conviction. But not only monetary donations can help. We regularly support various associations and organisations with essential donations of clothes and goods. Voluntary work, memberships and involvement in national and international cooperations and networks round off our commitment.

“We are convinced that global challenges can only be solved through international cooperation, strong organisations and the contribution of all, be it individuals or companies.”

OUR STRATEGIC PRIORITIES

Questions & Answers

Sustainability subjects such as environmental protection and human rights are incredibly extensive, multi-faceted and very complex. Therefore, we have answered questions that we are frequently asked as compactly as possible.

Where and under what working conditions are the safety shoes produced?

We manufacture our products in partner factories in Asia and Europe. In this way, we provide long-term employment for several thousand people. We often have a long-standing and trusting relationship with our production sites. We select them carefully from the outset and set high expectations in terms of social and environmental standards. In order to enforce our standards, we incorporate them into our production contracts from the outset. Our Code of Conduct obliges all suppliers to comply with social and ecological standards which are based on internationally recognised industry standards and the ILO core labour standards. Compliance with the standards is permanently checked by our own employees on site, by members of our sustainability team, by the management and by independent auditors. 99% of our order volumes are currently produced in factories that undergo regular BSCI, SMETA, SA8000 or PUMA SAFE audits. This way, we can ensure that our products are manufactured under safe and fair working conditions.

How does ISM ensure that production sites comply with the rules?

We know our production sites, we have a long-standing cooperation. Our
inspectors and employees are regularly on site. We attach a great deal of importance to the fact that
production takes place according to our quality standards and our high social and environmental standards.
Our Code of Conduct obliges all suppliers to comply with social and
ecological standards which are based on internationally recognised industry standards and ILO
core labour standards. Environmental protection is also regulated therein. We control these
regularly through our own employees, who are permanently on site, and independent organisations,
who audit the production sites. In addition, there are regular training sessions and round table
meetings to keep partners up to date.

How does ISM ensure that the factories comply with the legal requirements?

We only work with production partners who fulfil our social, environmental, chemical and health and safety requirements, which are set out in our Code of Conduct and PUMA’s sustainability manuals. These requirements apply even if they are stricter than or contradict local standards. We control compliance through our own employees, who are regularly on site, and independent organisations, who audit the factories. In addition, there are regular training sessions and participation in round table meetings to help our partners meet all requirements.

What is the BSCI?

amfori BSCI is a leading company initiative for the improvement of working conditions in the global supply chain.
With the amfori BSCI Code of Conduct, companies can strengthen their business in the long term and thus reduce risk – also for business partners and investors, lenders or insurers.

Code of Conduct
The amfori BSCI Code of Conduct is based on the conventions of the International Labor Organization (ILO), the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the UN Global Compact and the OECD Guidelines. All amfori BSCI participants agree to the CoC and pledge to comply with it. The BSCI Code of Conduct is also available in other languages.

Mandatory goals
By joining, participants commit to engage their suppliers in the amfori BSCI process and are continuously monitored on their progress. In turn, the suppliers of BSCI participants pledge to comply with the BSCI Code of Conduct and are audited accordingly. In addition, the companies are supported in their further development with training.

Sectors
Today, amfori BSCI covers all sectors and can be applied in all countries. You can find further information here: https://ch.amfori.org/de/content/bsci-k%C3%BCrze-0

Do PUMA’s strict requirements have to be fully complied with?

A resounding yes. Sustainability is one of PUMA’s defined core values and an integral part of any collaboration. Sustainability is consistently implemented and has been deeply anchored in our core processes and products for many years.

Where does ISM produce the shoes?

We mainly produce our footwear in Asia, with China being our biggest country of production. However, one part of our safety footwear is manufactured here in Europe – in Romania, to be precise.

How does ISM ensure that production sites comply with the rules?

We only work with production partners who fulfil our social, environmental, chemical and health and safety requirements, which are set out in our Code of Conduct and PUMA’s sustainability manuals. These requirements apply even if they are stricter than or contradict local standards. We control compliance through our own employees, who are regularly on site, and independent organisations, who audit the factories. In addition, there are regular training sessions and participation in round table meetings to help our partners meet all requirements.
